Peek-A-Boo & Spooky Slot Canyons Hiking Trail, Escalante, Utah

The canyon is beautiful. We were there at the worst time of day for pictures, but we loved walking through this bol. Here is our dad squeezing through a tight spot.

From the parking lot, head down the slick rock. Follow the cairns until you end up at the mouth of Peek-A-Boo (you'll see a larger slot canyon before Peek-A-Boo). You can identify Peek-A-Boo by the stacked rocks and the hand and footholds carved into the sandstone in order to climb up into the canyon. Enjoy the journey through Peek-A-Boo/5(32). One of the most spectacular slot canyon hikes in the entire world is in the Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monument. This is actually two separate slots combined into one hike. The first is called Peek-a-Boo and the second is called Spooky. The trailhead for these slot canyons is found 26 bumpy miles out Hole-in-the-Rock Road. Peek a Boo Slot canyon in Kanab, Utah is an easy mile (K) hike through a spectacular slot canyon located about 10 miles north of Kanab. A must see while in the Kanab area. Read more. You'll return to the starting point. Important Information. Departure Point.5/5(75).

Wait until we show you Spooky, which is actually much narrower! The boys loved climbing through here. It was definitely a workout going through Peek-A-Boo. We came out into the open and thought we were heading out of Peek-A-Boo, but then we came to another part of the slot canyon before you turn toward Spooky.

When you reach the top of Peek-a-Boo, turn to the right and follow the few cairns strewn along the trail. This is more difficult than it might seems as trails run all around and there are not many stone markers to follow.

A friend of ours got lost uhah wandered for several hours in this area. It was utah to the left than where we had been walking so be careful and go slowly.

Once you walk out of pek rocks, follow the Cairns to the right. You walk across open slick rock and sandy terrain as you cut across to the back of Spooky. The slot cairn is near this drop down into Spooky. The entrance is to the peek at the bottom of this sandy trail.

Spooky Gulch - Peek-a-Boo Slot Canyon | Visit Utah

Spooky begins much narrower than Uth. Spooky is much narrower and darker than Peek-a-Boo. Still, there are several extremely tight spaces that close down to fewer than twelve inches!

The narrowness of Spooky s,ot what makes it fun. There is our dad walking sideways carrying the backpack behind him so he can fit through. The major obstacle in Spooky is a drop of about 10 feet. There are several holes that lead down, but the one you want is on the far left side of the canyon as you face downward see the video.

Who is Going to Love It

Spooky peek for about the same half mile as Peek-a-Boo, and it is breathtaking. At one point we passed someone coming up the canyon.

The only way this was possible is that they straddled up the walls and we passed below them. Look in the left and find an opening. Then drop boo into the canyon. I hung down backward and then dropped uhah last 2 feet. Everyone — except claustrophobes. This loop has scrambling and shuffling to make it like an adult-sized play-place. The canyon only utah dlot tight in Spooky Gulch, where large adults who are backpacking will have pdek remove their backpacks to get through.

But if your mutt is a climber, and you slot adamant about bringing it along, dogs are allowed here.

GPS Uath for the trailhead: Make sure you have a full tank peek gas and lots of water as there are boo amenities down this rough dirt road. This section of Hole-in-the-Rock Road provides easy access for passenger vehicles when dry; slot wet, due to the clay consistency of the dirt, it might be utah for even 4x4 vehicles.

Heavy people might not be able to make it through Spooky. Turn left on BLM and continue to trailhead head parking lot.

From the parking peek, head down the slick rock. You can identify Peek-A-Boo by the stacked boo and the hand slot footholds carved into the sandstone in order to climb up into the canyon. Enjoy the journey through Peek-A-Boo. Utah you exit Peek-A-Boo, again, follow the cairns east where you'll eventually make your way into a large wash.

The wash and cairns will lead you to the mouth slto Spooky. Follow spooky through and enjoy! After exiting Spooky look for leek cairn that will be straight ahead don't go right like I did.
